NWU Student Bumps Into Peers While Attempting To Flee During Protest

The North West University recently experienced an unfortunate incident on its Vanderbijlpark campus, where a student accidentally bumped into two of her peers with her car.

According to university spokesperson Louis Jacobs, the incident occurred amidst a student protest that took place on Tuesday. The protest led to clashes between the students and the police, resulting in chaos and commotion.

In an attempt to escape the crowd and the unrest, the student behind the wheel tried to navigate her vehicle away from the scene, inadvertently colliding with two fellow students.

Fortunately, one of the students only required a medical examination and was able to return to her residence later that same afternoon. The university is providing support to both the injured students and the traumatised motorist.

The protest was organised by the EFF student command, with the aim of pressuring the university to release student allowances.

As classes had already commenced, students were facing difficulties accessing basic necessities such as toiletries and food. During the demonstration, the students closed the road, which led to the incident involving the motorist.

In response to the unrest and disruption of the academic program and services, campus management at North West University held meetings with stakeholders to find solutions. Vice-chancellor Prof Mzubanzi Bismark Tyobeka expressed satisfaction with the progress made during these meetings and assured that contact/face-to-face classes would resume on Friday.

The university remains vigilant, with the protection service and law enforcement agencies on alert to address any transgressions.
