Authorities are looking for a Soweto woman who is suspected of drugging the four-year-old daughter of a neighbour and trying to kidnap her by placing her in a luggage bag.
The mother noticed her missing child on Saturday while the child was supposedly playing with her friends in Protea Phase 1.

According to Lt-Col Mavela Masondo, a spokesman for the Gauteng police, the mother had doubts about a tenant who was leaving that day and shared the same property.
The mother approached the tenant and began going through her bags.
“The child was discovered inside one of the travelling bags, with her hands and feet tied up and a cloth tucked inside her mouth,” he said.
The tenant fled as soon as the child was discovered.
The girl was taken to the hospital, where she is in a serious but stable condition.
A kidnapping case has been opened.
Masondo stated that the woman is still being sought after.
An unnamed source informed SurgeZirc SA that the mother had assisted in searching the baggage with the help of an e-hailing driver who had been summoned by the tenat to assist with her move.

“This is very scary and traumatising. The mother is not coping at all. The child is fighting for her life, and it seems she is in a critical condition,” the source said.
Masondo said the substance used to allegedly drug the child has not yet been determined.
