The Department of Education’s Krugersdorp district office is investigating an assault on a female student at a Gauteng high school.
Two male learners can be seen confronting the girl in a 25-second video clip that has gone viral on social media.
The incident occurred at the Nic Diederichs Technical High School in Krugersdorp.
At the start of the video, she is seen seated between two other learners. During the argument, the girl stands up, and a few seconds later, one of the boys hands something to the student next to him before violently pushing the girl down and slapping her.
The girl is seen fighting back in the video, which was presumably recorded by another pupil. Soon after, other students step in.
A secretary at the school confirmed to SurgeZirc SAÂ that the principal was aware of the circulating video.
A second woman also confirmed that the matter was being investigated by the Krugersdorp Education District Office. The Krugersdorp Education District Office did not respond to phone calls.
