The Western Cape Police have confirmed that an investigation has been initiated following an accident in Kraaifontein on Monday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 09:05 on the N1 in the direction of Paarl. A vehicle attached to the Public Order Police, based in Faure, was involved in the accident.
Nine police officers who were travelling in the armoured Nyala vehicle were injured when the vehicle overturned and landed in the median.
It is fortunate to note that no other vehicles were involved in the accident. Contrary to social media posts suggesting prisoners had escaped, there were no prisoners in the vehicle at the time of the incident.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are currently under investigation. In the meantime, the injured police officers are receiving medical treatment for their injuries. It is believed that another vehicle crashed into the armoured Nyala, causing it to overturn.
The Western Cape Police will provide updates on the investigation as more information becomes available.
