According to NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon, their strategic rescue unit and police were dispatched to the scene, where 20 Singapore tourists and six local river guides were down the river.

“The six river guides were assisting and they were reporting that CPR efforts had been commenced on one male tourist and one female tourist.

“Six tourists and two river guides, both males, were rescued from the water with the cooperation of the river guides, the tourists themselves and the emergency services – the two river guides were unconscious and medical treatment was provided by paramedics to the river guides and to the tourists.”

Following extensive CPR efforts, the two tourists were declared dead by paramedics.
