Two Suspects Arrested In Possession Of Stolen Goods Worth R9 Million And A Hijacked Truck

The occupants of the house where the truck was found claimed that it belonged to their stepfather. Upon consent, officers conducted a search and discovered a range of brand new motor vehicle parts.

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Northern Region Task Team Officers, working in collaboration with the South African Police Service (SAPS) Ekurhuleni Crime Intelligence Unit, successfully apprehended two male suspects on Monday, February 19, 2024.

The arrest took place between the hours of 12:00 and 21:59.

During the operation, a hijacked truck was discovered and found to contain reported stolen goods worth an estimated R9 million. The EMPD has confirmed that the recovered truck, along with all seized items, has been brought to the police station for further investigation.

The occupants of the house where the truck was found claimed that it belonged to their stepfather. Upon consent, officers conducted a search and discovered a range of brand new motor vehicle parts. Subsequent testing revealed that the truck had been reported as robbed or hijacked two weeks prior in the Kempton Park area by Bredell.

Shortly after the search, the stepfather, a 57-year-old individual, attempted to flee but was apprehended on the premises. Both suspects are now in custody and are expected to appear in the relevant Magistrate’s Court.

They are facing charges of possession of a robbed or hijacked vehicle and possession of stolen goods.
