Monica Nyuswa, spokesperson for the Mpumalanga National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), stated on Wednesday, January 24, that the sister, Valencia Nonhlanhla and Bathabile Mthunywa, as well as Nombuso Philadephia Ndwandwa and Steen Silo Mashakeng, have been charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, theft, rape, fraud, and defeating the ends of justice.
This is a reference to an occurrence in January 2020 in Barberton, in which the deceased’s body was recovered at a local dumping site near the abattoir.
The murder is thought to be linked to a life insurance claim. “The matter was set down for trial on Monday, and the state was ready to proceed. However, the new legal representative for accused 4 requested time to consult with her client in preparation for trial.
“This is after the accused had terminated the services of her previous legal representative. All parties involved agreed to postpone the matter to this Monday for trial,” Nyuswa said.

According to police files from 2020, Dlamini was invited to visit her 30-year-old daughter, Nonhlanhla. Nonhlanhla allegedly organised her sister and two male acquaintances, who waited for her mother.
When Dlamini finally arrived at Nonhlanhla’s residence, she was allegedly kidnapped, assaulted, and gang-raped by the two male pals while Nonhlanhla and another female held her.
Dlamini’s body was later found.
