On Sunday morning, a truck and a car collided at the intersection of Pine and Gardiner Streets in the Durban CBD, resulting in the loss of two lives and leaving one person critically injured. The accident, described as “horrific” by witnesses, occurred just before 3 am.
Upon arrival at the scene, ALS Paramedics Medical Services were met with a scene of total carnage. The collision had caused the truck to overturn, adding to the severity of the incident.
Garrith Jamieson, a spokesperson for ALS Paramedics, stated that advanced life support paramedics quickly assessed the situation and sadly determined that both males, believed to be in their 30s, had sustained critical injuries and could not be saved. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

Another individual was found trapped inside their vehicle. Paramedics worked tirelessly to stabilize the injured person while the Durban Fire Department utilized specialized equipment, such as the jaws of life, to extricate them from the wreckage. Once freed, the individual was immediately transported to a nearby Durban hospital for further medical attention.
The cause of the accident remains unclear and will be thoroughly investigated by the police.
