An overnight fire in Town 2, Khayelitsha, Cape Town, has resulted in a devastating loss of life and the destruction of approximately 100 homes. The fire broke out at around 9pm on Sunday, prompting authorities to dispatch 12 firefighting resources and over 50 firefighters to the scene.
Despite their best efforts, the fire rapidly spread, making it difficult to contain. Tragically, the body of an adult was discovered amidst the ruins at 1 a.m. The fire was eventually extinguished shortly before 3 a.m., leaving behind a trail of destruction.

The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, and the South African Police Service has taken over the investigation. The city’s disaster risk management centre will be verifying the estimated number of structures destroyed, which stands at approximately 100.
