Three Family Members Arrested For Kidnapping Man, Chopping Both His Hands Off With Panga

In an update, police reported that the man who lost both his hands in the brutal attack remains in the hospital, where he is recovering.

Three suspects, aged between 20 and 55, have been arrested in Vosman, Mpumalanga, following a horrific incident where a man was kidnapped and both his hands were chopped off with a panga. The attack occurred last week, leaving the abducted 30-year-old man in excruciating pain and bleeding profusely.

An intensive investigation by the Mpumalanga police led to the arrest of the alleged attackers on Wednesday night. Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, stated that the trio is facing charges of attempted murder involving the 30-year-old victim.

“This achievement is the result of a vigorous investigation by the team, resulting in the arrest of three suspects who are believed to be from the same family,” he said.

Following the incident, several police specialized units and private security companies collaborated in their efforts to pursue the attackers. Mdhluli explained, “Details on the whereabouts of the suspects were received, and the information was then operationalized, leading the team to certain premises in Vosman, near Witbank. On Wednesday night, March 27, 2024, it was proven that hard work pays off as the team managed to corner the three suspects.”

In an update, police reported that the man who lost both his hands in the brutal attack remains in the hospital, where he is recovering. During a revisit to the crime scene, law enforcement agents discovered the pair of hands.

The three arrested suspects are expected to appear before the Emalahleni Magistrate’s Court next week, facing charges of attempted murder.

Mpumalanga Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, appealed to community members in the area to remain calm and allow the law to take its course. She also commended the investigators for their breakthrough in arresting the accused trio.

“Well done to the team for the arrest of the three suspects after spending sleepless nights for days. We are adamant that the remaining suspects will soon be apprehended. We trust that justice will be served for the victim,” she said.
