Thieves who broke into the Petrusville police station in the Northern Cape on Tuesday and made off with firearms have yet to be arrested.
This incident has raised concerns about the security measures in place at police stations across the country.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Cherelle Ehlers, the circumstances surrounding the theft are currently under investigation.
She stated, “The 72-hour activation plan was activated, where all SAPS resources and specialised units were mobilized to apprehend the suspects and recover the stolen firearms.”
It is reported that four firearms were stolen from the station. This is a serious matter as these weapons can potentially end up in the wrong hands and contribute to the already high levels of crime in the country.
Colonel Ehlers mentioned that the case had been handed over to the Hawks, the elite crime-fighting unit in South Africa.
However, Northern Cape Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Tebogo Thebe declined to provide any specific information about the investigation, citing that it is still in its early stages.
