On Monday, a service delivery protest unfolded at the intersection of Parkgate and Ottawa, north of Durban, as dozens of frustrated residents expressed their anger by burning branches, debris, and tires.
The protest was sparked by the ongoing water shortage issue that has plagued the area for the past two years, following the devastating floods in April 2022.

According to the residents, they have been deprived of a constant supply of water, with tankers failing to provide consistent deliveries.
Instead, these tankers predominantly cater to the more affluent areas of Verulam, Umhlanga, and Tongaat. This neglect has left the residents of Parkgate and Ottawa feeling marginalized and ignored.

Adding to their grievances, the recent heavy rains have exacerbated the situation, leaving the taps completely dry for the past few days. This dire state of affairs has pushed the frustrated residents to take to the streets in protest, demanding immediate action and resolution from the authorities.
The residents of Parkgate and Ottawa are calling for urgent attention to their water crisis, emphasizing the need for equal distribution of resources and a sustainable solution that will ensure their basic needs are met.
