The Wynberg Regional Court has found a Western Cape police officer guilty of raping an 18-year-old woman while on duty. This shocking incident occurred on July 4, 2018, after the victim was arrested by three officers for alleged drug dealing.
The officer, Constable Jerome Coetzee from the Lwandle Crime Prevention Unit, has been at the centre of a serious investigation that has raised concerns about police conduct.

The Incident Details
According to Phaladi Shuping, spokesperson for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), the police acted on a tip-off and discovered three packets of drugs during a search of a residence in the area.
Following the discovery, the 18-year-old woman was arrested. Constable Coetzee, who was driving the police vehicle, separated from his colleagues by dropping them off at the police station, leaving the victim alone in the back seat.

The Aftermath and Implications
Coetzee drove the young woman to a deserted area, where he proceeded to rape her inside the police vehicle.
