According to reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning on the R44 in Somerset West. Four individuals, two males, and two females, were walking when they were stopped and searched by the police.
After the search, the officers instructed them to go back home, but the group explained that they needed to buy electricity at a nearby Total petrol station.
However, it is alleged that the officers refused to listen to their explanation and insisted that they return home. The group remained firm in their decision to purchase electricity, which led to a confrontation.
Shockingly, one of the police officers reportedly drew his firearm and fired at the group, resulting in the death of one individual.
The IPID, responsible for investigating cases of police misconduct, took swift action and arrested the officer involved. The officer is expected to appear in court on Wednesday to face charges related to the incident.
This incident raises serious concerns about the conduct and use of force by law enforcement officers. It is crucial that thorough investigations are conducted to ensure justice is served.
The IPID’s actions in this case demonstrate their commitment to holding police officers accountable for their actions.
