The Gauteng police have made a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the murders of Rand Water executive, Teboho Joala, and his bodyguard.
Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the crime, which took place at a school event in Zakariyya Park, south of Johannesburg, in January.
According to South African Police Service spokesperson, Brigadier Brenda Muridili, the first suspect was apprehended while en route to Gauteng from KwaZulu-Natal. Upon questioning him, the police obtained valuable information about two other suspects who were hiding in KZN.

The police team then travelled to KZN and successfully arrested the two men linked to the murder. Of the three suspects arrested, two had warrants of arrest issued against them on the same case, while the third suspect was apprehended without a warrant of arrest in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Act.
The arrested individuals are expected to appear in the Protea Magistrate’s Court on April 22. In addition to these arrests, a fourth suspect, Ayanda Ngwenya, was previously arrested in March on a charge of firearm possession.
It is believed that the firearm in question was used in the commission of the murders of Joala and his bodyguard. Ngwenya remains in custody, and the matter is scheduled to return to court on May 16.
SAPS Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, commended the efforts of all those involved in the arrests. He praised the dedication, thoroughness, and bravery displayed by members of the Gauteng Serious and Violent Crime Investigation (SVCI) Murder and Robbery Team, Provincial Crime Detection Tracking Team, and Tactical Response Team (TRT).
Mthombeni emphasized that these arrests would help restore the community’s faith in the South African Police Service and send a message that perpetrators will be brought to justice.
