Oscar Pistorius’ family and lawyer insist that the jailed Paralympic athlete is eligible for parole.
The family and Julian Knight claim that the dates given by the Correctional Services Department and the parole board are incorrect.

However, the department claims Pistorius has not yet served his minimum term, despite a November 2017 judgement by the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein.
Before being eligible for parole in South Africa, criminals must serve at least half of their sentence. Pistorius is seeking clarification on the dates in papers submitted to the Constitutional Court.
The SCA sentenced him to 13 years and five months in prison, an increase from the six years he received in 2016.
However, papers show that, ahead of his parole hearing in March 2023, the SCA issued a bulletin stating that the sentence of the November 2017 order is effective as of November 24, 2017.
Pistorius has stated in papers that the aforementioned correspondence is incorrect.
He further claims that the “unjustified, arbitrary, and unlawful” implementation of the November 2017 order violates his fundamental rights and has effectively doubled the length of time he has to spend, making him eligible for release only in August 2024.
