A team of police from different units and private security officers successfully thwarted a cash-in-transit robbery in Mpumalanga, Tasbet Park suburb in Witbank on April 3, 2024. Acting on a tip-off, the team received information that the suspects were heading towards Mpumalanga after an attempted robbery in Witbank.
As the team closed in on the suspects’ safe house in Tasbet Park, the robbers, who were already dispersing in a Toyota Quantum, spotted the approaching law enforcement and opened fire.

In a display of bravery and swift action, the police and private security officers retaliated, resulting in the fatal shooting of five alleged robbers. Eight others were apprehended at the scene, while nine managed to escape.
During the operation, the team seized a significant amount of evidence. They recovered five rifles, including three AK 47s, one AR 15, and one R5. Additionally, two pistols and four vehicles were confiscated. The vehicles, a Mazda CX5, an Audi Q5, a Haval, and another Mazda CX5 with a tampered engine number, were reported stolen from Jeppe, Yeoville, and Rabie Ridge.

The suspects who were captured will face charges of murder, attempted murder, and possession of prohibited firearms.
