Four men believed to be responsible for a series of robberies in Gauteng have been apprehended following a dramatic shoot-out with Johannesburg police. The suspects, aged between 44 and 49, were arrested in Cyrildene on Wednesday.
During the arrest, the police discovered three stolen firearms, ammunition, a reported stolen motor vehicle, and housebreaking tools in their possession.
The incident unfolded when officers from the Johannesburg Flying Squad received information about a silver Renault Clio occupied by individuals suspected of involvement in multiple house robberies in Gauteng.
Spotting the vehicle in Cyrildene, the police attempted to stop it using their blue lights and siren. However, the suspects accelerated and opened fire at the police. In response, the officers returned fire, resulting in two suspects sustaining injuries. The remaining two suspects were apprehended without harm.
Fortunately, none of the police officers were injured during the exchange. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the vehicle used by the alleged robbers and the firearms were obtained during previous robbery incidents in Gauteng.

The arrested individuals are expected to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court, facing charges of attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearms, possession of ammunition, and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Additional charges may be added pending further investigation.
