Motorists will have to prepare for a petrol hike from today being Wednesday, 2 February, as a result of the latest fuel price increase, which took effect at midnight on Tuesday, 1 February.
The Central Energy Fund (CEF) confirmed that the retail price of gasoline (93) would rise by 53 cents per litre, while 95 would rise by the same margin.

Furthermore, the wholesale price of diesel (0.05 percent sulphur) increased by 80 cents, and the wholesale price of 0.005 percent increased by 79 cents.
Finally, the wholesale price of illuminating paraffin increased by R1.01 per kilogram.
This means that the next time you visit your local gas station, it will be a lot more expensive – and it may be time to break out the bicycle and walking shoes.
The new inland price of unleaded 95 petrol is R20.14 per litre.
If you live in Gauteng and own a BMW X3 with a fuel tank capacity of 60 litres, it will cost you R1 208.40 to fill up with unleaded 95 as of this morning.
Prior to the recent price increase, it would have cost R1 176.60.
That’s an additional R31.80.

If you filled up the same car with diesel 0.005 percent (R18.07) today, it would cost R1 084.20.
You would have paid R1 036.80 at the ‘old’ price of R17.28, making it R47.40 more expensive after the latest price increase.
