Passenger Dies At Durban’s King Shaka International Airport After Boarding Flight

A passenger services agent was dispatched and arrived at the scene at 8:40 PM, discovering the passenger to be unresponsive.

Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has confirmed the unfortunate death of a passenger at Durban’s King Shaka International Airport on Friday. The woman, who was scheduled to travel to Johannesburg, died shortly before boarding a FlySafair (FA279) flight.

ACSA’s media director, Tshililo Manenzhe, provided a detailed timeline of the events. According to Manenzhe, a call was reported at 8:35 PM to the call centre, requesting emergency medical assistance after the traveller was observed struggling to breathe at gate A12 of the airport terminal.

A passenger services agent was dispatched and arrived at the scene at 8:40 PM, discovering the passenger to be unresponsive.

Paramedics arrived on the scene at 8:49 PM and immediately began providing advanced life support. Despite their best efforts, the woman was declared deceased on the scene. The cause of death remains unknown at this time.

ACSA has handed the matter over to the police for further investigation. Manenzhe extended ACSA’s deepest condolences to the traveller’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
