Today marks a crucial day for Oscar Pistorius as the correctional supervision and parole board reconvenes to consider his eligibility for early release.
Currently serving a sentence of 13 years and 5 months for the murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, on Valentine’s Day 2013, Pistorius applied for parole in March but was initially denied based on a communication from the Supreme Court of Appeal.

In October, however, the Constitutional Court issued an order confirming that Pistorius had indeed served half of his sentence, making him eligible for parole.
Consequently, the Department of Correctional Services spokesperson, Singabakho Nxumalo, confirmed earlier this week that the board would be reviewing Pistorius’s profile today.
The correctional supervision and parole board is an independent entity, and Nxumalo emphasized that the department cannot predict the outcome.
