The Hawks in Limpopo have confirmed that a fidelity security guard was shot and killed while two others sustained injuries during a cash-in-transit robbery.
The incident occurred when their armoured vehicle was rammed by suspects driving a Mercedes Benz, forcing it to stop on R37 road near Thokgwaneng in Mecklenburg on Saturday.

According to Hawks spokesperson Matimba Maluleke, “It is further alleged that the suspects fired shots at the armoured vehicle before robbing the guards and making off with an undisclosed amount of money.
The suspects allegedly used a silver BMW 3 series as their getaway vehicle.”
Tragically, three guards were injured during the shooting, and one of them succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital. The loss of life in this incident is deeply saddening and our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the deceased.
Responding to the incident, the provincial head of Hawks, Major General Gopz Govender, has ordered a manhunt for the suspects. He further warned members of the public to refrain from tampering with crime scenes or handling stolen money.
A video circulating online shows individuals picking up money that was left scattered around after the robbery. It is important to note that handling stolen money is a criminal offense and anyone found in possession of such money will face legal consequences.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased security guard and hope that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.
