On Sunday (17 March) morning, an alleged Rolex gang attempted to rob a victim in Sandton, Johannesburg. However, their plans were thwarted when the victim’s bodyguards witnessed the incident and opened fire, leading to a shootout on Rivonia Road.
The incident occurred near the US Consulate offices and opposite Sandton City, where the victim and bodyguards were driving together. As the victim was about to enter a nearby hotel, the gang struck, but the bodyguards quickly responded, engaging in a fierce exchange of gunfire.

As a result of the shootout, one suspect was killed, and two others sustained injuries. Law enforcement quickly arrived at the scene, and Sandton Drive was closed from Rivonia Road towards Alice Lane due to the earlier crime incident.
Authorities have urged motorists to use alternate routes until the scene has been cleared. The Gauteng Provincial Joint Operations Centre (JOC), a Gauteng Police Board initiative, is coordinating efforts to apprehend the suspect who managed to escape.
The suspects were driving a grey Suzuki with no registration number, adding to the challenge of identifying and locating the remaining perpetrator.
