Motorists in Durban have been issued a stern warning to exercise caution while driving, following a series of accidents caused by heavy rains that have wreaked havoc on the city’s roads.
ALS Paramedics, a leading emergency medical service provider, reported a surge in their workload as they attended to multiple accidents over the weekend.

According to Garrith Jamieson, the director of ALS Paramedics, one particularly serious incident occurred on Friday night when they responded to a single-vehicle crash on the M4 near Virginia.
The vehicle had lost control and rolled multiple times before colliding with a lamppost, resulting in fatal injuries to the driver and serious injuries to the passenger.
Jamieson also highlighted the occurrence of several other accidents across Durban, with hotspots like Fields Hill and the M19 witnessing multiple crashes resulting in serious injuries.
In light of these incidents, he urged all motorists to adapt to the prevailing weather conditions and prioritise safety on the roads.

To ensure safe driving during heavy rains, Jamieson advised motorists to switch on their headlights for better visibility and ensure that their vehicle’s tyres and wipers are in optimal condition.
Additionally, he emphasised the importance of leaving earlier to allow for extra travel time.
