A McDonald’s employee in Durban, South Africa, was arrested after holding at least three staff members hostage at the busy Berea Road eatery.
The hostages were eventually freed by the police, who had to resort to using stun grenades to rescue them from the knife-wielding employee.
According to Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the spokesperson for the KwaZulu-Natal police, the woman was taken into custody and later transferred to the hospital for medical observation. She is currently under police guard.

The incident took place at a McDonald’s restaurant on King Dinuzulu Road in Berea, where the ex-employee allegedly arrived and held the employees at knifepoint.
Responding to the situation, the police swiftly arrived at the scene and had to employ the use of a stun grenade to ensure the safe release of the hostages. A case of kidnapping has been opened for investigation.
