A manhunt has been launched by police in Mpumalanga following a brutal attack on a group of people in Alexandra near Calcutta. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning when an unidentified number of gunmen opened fire on the victims, leaving a trail of devastation in their wake.

According to reports, the attack took place at approximately 2:25am. The victims, who were caught completely off guard, sustained multiple gunshot wounds, resulting in a tragic loss of life. Two individuals tragically lost their lives at the scene, while seven others were rushed to a nearby medical facility to receive urgent medical attention for their injuries.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, who is leading the investigation, provided some insight into the horrifying incident. He stated, “One of the victims who was fatally shot was found inside the car, while the other victim who died was found lying on the ground. The seven other victims who sustained injuries were found scattered around the premises.”

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, leaving investigators puzzled as they piece together the events leading up to the tragedy. Preliminary findings suggest that the gunmen arrived at the premises and indiscriminately opened fire on the unsuspecting victims. Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, expressed her deep concern over the incident. She condemned the senseless killing, stating, “We cannot allow such incidents to occur unabated. Our dedicated members are working tirelessly around the clock to ensure that the perpetrators are soon brought to book.”
