Man Sentenced To Jail For Vehicle Finance Fraud In Emalahleni

The Emalahleni Magistrate’s Court has handed down a three-year jail sentence to Job Molepo, aged 28, after he was found guilty of vehicle finance fraud.

The incident took place in July 2022 when Molepo visited the Eastvaal Isuzu dealership in Witbank with the intention of purchasing a Toyota Avanza vehicle.

According to Warrant Officer Thandi Tshabalala, the Mpumalanga spokesperson for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, also known as the Hawks, Molepo provided all the necessary documents to the dealership, and his application was subsequently approved. The Toyota Avanza was delivered to him.

However, it was later discovered by Wesbank, the financing institution involved, that the documents submitted by Molepo were fraudulent. As a result, the vehicle was repossessed promptly.

The matter was reported to the police, who opened a case docket and transferred it to the Hawks’ serious commercial crime investigation unit in Middelburg for further examination.

Following a thorough investigation, a summons was served, leading to Molepo’s arrest on October 17 of the same year. He appeared before the court on multiple occasions, and ultimately, he was found guilty and sentenced to three years in prison.
