In a recent operation led by the provincial detectives’ serious and violent crime investigations unit, police in Cape Town seized a significant cache of firearms and ammunition.
The operation took place in the early hours of Thursday in Gugulethu, resulting in the arrest of a 37-year-old man.

According to police spokesperson Lt-Col Malcolm Pojie, the officers obtained and executed a search warrant on a premises in NY5 Gugulethu, where they found the suspect.
A further search of the premises led to the discovery of four rifles with 123 rounds of ammunition and four 9mm pistols with 150 rounds of ammunition. The suspect was unable to provide a valid license for the possession of these firearms and ammunition.
As a result, the man was arrested on charges related to the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. He is set to appear in the Athlone magistrate’s court to face these charges.
Provincial commissioner Lt-Gen Thembisile Patekile expressed gratitude to the team involved in the operation for their efforts in removing firearms from the streets. The seizure of these weapons is a significant step in combating serious and violent crimes in the area.
