Man Arrested After Being Found With Drugs Worth R1 Million

During the search, they discovered packets of Tik hidden in a compartment on the side of the vehicle.

Efforts to combat the illegal drug trade in the Western Cape have once again yielded positive results, as law enforcement officers seized drugs with an estimated street value of approximately R1 million on the N2 highway in Plettenberg Bay.

A 30-year-old man appeared in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrates’ court on Monday, 22 January 2024 in connection with the discovery.

On Friday, 19 January 2024, members of the Rural Flying Squad strategically deployed at a vehicle checkpoint near the entrance to Plettenberg Bay pulled over a Chevrolet bakkie at around 05:00.

The driver’s suspicious behaviour prompted the officers to conduct a search. During the search, they discovered packets of Tik hidden in a compartment on the side of the vehicle. A total of 3.08 kilograms of Tik were confiscated, and the driver was arrested. The vehicle itself was also seized.

The accused now faces charges of drug dealing and has been remanded in custody until the next court appearance on Friday, 26 January 2024.

It is believed that the drugs were intended for delivery in George, highlighting the significance of this interception in preventing the distribution of illicit substances in the Garden Route District.
