Siva Moodley, a pastor from Gauteng, was buried 579 days after he died. Photos from the burial, which was held with the help of Destiny Church, were widely shared on social media this week.
Since his death on August 15, 2021, Moodley’s body has been stored at a Johannesburg mortuary.
Moodley, the 53-year-old founder of The Miracle Centre on Johannesburg’s northwestern outskirts, died after becoming ill.
According to the “Post,” his relatives and church members used to attend the funeral home to pray for his resurrection.
At the time, funeral home manager Martin du Toit applied to the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court for permission to bury or cremate Moodley.
The church’s services have continued as usual since Moodley’s death, according to the Post, and are led by his wife, Jessie, son, David, and daughter, Kathryn Jade. The services are also broadcast live on social media.
According to reports, the church has not publicly acknowledged his death on social media or alerted the congregation of his location. His social media sites, particularly Facebook and Twitter, are active, and messages are uploaded on a daily basis as if they are from him.
Miracle Centre employees declined to communicate with the media. They claimed to have a policy in place which barred them from doing so.
