Bina, a highly trained narcotic detector dog, had been a valuable asset to the SAPS Lephalale K9 unit. She played a crucial role in solving drug-related cases in Limpopo, assisting in the arrest of three suspects just days before her untimely demise. The suspects were found in possession of crystals, nyaope, and cat drugs with an estimated value of R75,000.
Lieutenant-General Hadebe highlighted the unique abilities of police dogs like Bina, emphasizing their capacity to access areas that humans cannot and detect incriminating items using their exceptional senses. She expressed the profound loss felt by the unit and the entire province, acknowledging that these dogs are an integral part of the SAPS family.
Sadly, Bina’s case is not an isolated incident. Just last month, a family in Brits, North West, witnessed a python devouring their cross pit bull. The python, measuring 4.1 metres in length and weighing approximately 30kg, was eventually captured and the dog was regurgitated unharmed.
