As commuters in Johannesburg struggle to make their way to work and school, Johannesburg Metrobus is working diligently to restore its services following a wildcat strike.
The strike was initiated by a group of non-unionized employees who refused to report to work. Tshepo Nathan, a representative from Metrobus, explained that the drivers were dissatisfied with ongoing wage disputes and the selection of shifts.
The illegal strike, which began the previous day, has had a significant impact on Metrobus operations. Despite management’s efforts to reach an agreement with the striking employees, a resolution could not be reached.
Consequently, the entity’s operations at Ghandi Square, the nerve center of its services, will remain closed until further notice. This decision was made to ensure the safety of the drivers, as there were concerns about potential intimidation.
Unfortunately, the strike is expected to affect all Metrobus routes. Acts of intimidation have occurred, preventing employees who wished to work from doing so. Metrobus sincerely apologizes to all commuters for the inconvenience caused by this disruption.
