Jill Biden, the first lady of the United States, has arrived in Namibia for the first stop on a five-day Africa tour as part of the country’s efforts to strengthen ties on the continent.
Biden arrived in Namibia’s capital Windhoek on Wednesday afternoon before heading to Heroes’ Acre, a war memorial, with Namibia’s first lady.

Her trip will centre on education, health, and empowering youth and women, she said in a social media statement. She will travel to Kenya after Namibia to hear from those affected by drought and food insecurity, she said.
In an effort to counter the influence of China and Russia on the continent, the Biden administration is planning a slew of high-level visits to Africa this year.
