According to Hawks spokesperson, Katlego Mogale, the suspects’ vehicle was spotted on the N4, triggering a high-speed chase and a fierce shootout. “As soon as the suspects realized they were about to be captured, they opened fire on the law enforcement officials,” Mogale said.

The gunfight ensued for several minutes, with bullets flying in every direction. In the end, the suspects lost control of their vehicle and crashed into a fence, bringing the chaotic chase to a halt.

All four suspects sustained fatal gunshot wounds during the exchange of fire. The authorities wasted no time in securing the scene and conducting a thorough investigation. During the search, three unlicensed firearms were recovered, including two handguns and a rifle.

This successful operation serves as a significant blow to the criminal underworld, particularly those involved in cash-in-transit robberies.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) and the Hawks have been intensifying their efforts to combat this type of crime, which has been a major concern in recent years.

Cash-in-transit robberies pose a serious threat not only to the security companies involved but also to the general public.

These incidents often involve heavily armed criminals who use extreme violence to achieve their objectives. The consequences can be devastating, with innocent lives at risk.

By swiftly responding to the tip-off and taking decisive action, the police have once again demonstrated their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the country’s citizens.
