A 35-year-old man lost his life on Sunday when he was allegedly shot by a Mpumalanga farmer.
The incident took place on a farm in Bethal, according to Mpumalanga Provincial Police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli.

The victim, who was accompanied by a friend, was shot inside the farm at approximately 8 am on Sunday. Police reports suggest that the victim was suspected of unauthorized hunting on the farm.
Multiple shots were fired, resulting in the victim’s death. Medical personnel at the scene confirmed his demise.
The murder-accused farmer, a 48-year-old, was found at the scene with a firearm believed to have been used in the fatal shooting. Three empty cartridges were also discovered. Fortunately, the victim’s friend managed to escape unharmed.

The farmer has been arrested and is scheduled to appear before the Bethal Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. The police have seized the farmer’s firearm, which will undergo ballistic testing as part of the investigation.
Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Mpumalanga, has strongly condemned the incident. She commended the swift response of the police officers who apprehended the accused killer.
