According to Eskom’s Jan Oberholzer, while Sona was a significant event, the company’s goal was to reduce the risk of power outages in general.
Eskom said on Tuesday that it would do everything possible to avoid blackouts during the President’s State of the Nation Address (Sona).
Eskom suspended the rolling blackouts on Tuesday as its system improved.
Oberholzer said, “The focus is to make sure that we have skilled human capital to run this plant and to operate it decisively with the unpredictability of the system.”
According to CEO Andre De Ruyter, planned maintenance was slightly lower than the day before, and full and partial unplanned losses had also decreased. He stated that diesel levels were adequate and that the dams were in good condition.
De Ruyter said, “We are in much better shape than we were a day or two ago and under those circumstances, we are therefore able to suspend load shedding.”
