Stanza Bopape Secondary School appears to have implemented a policy that will exclude pregnant students beginning in 2023.
The school revised its policy in January, stating in section 7 of its 2023 admission policy prospectus that pregnant students must stay at home until they give birth.
Unless the pregnant students’ parents are able to come to school to care for them.
According to GroundUp, department spokesperson Steve Mabona has instructed the school to immediately withdraw such a policy.
He has asked the governing body of the school to review and align the admission policy with the National Policy for the Prevention and Management of Learner Pregnancy in Schools.
