If Naik declines to step down, his party membership will come to an end and he’ll no longer be regarded as a municipal councilor.
It was better for Naik to resign as mayor now rather than wait for the results of any judicial procedures the DA said.
It had taken steps to remove him to reinforce its dedication to offering the cleanest governance in South Africa, the party’s George constituency head Geordin Hill-Lewis reported.

“This was difficult and tough action but it was absolutely necessary ta take given the seriousness of the allegations against the mayor that were uncovered and substantiated in a forensic report into alleged corruption in that municipality.”
If Naik did not resign by the close of business on Wednesday, he would stop to be a member of the party Hill-Lewis announced.
