Brave Security Guard Foils Armed Robbery In Limpopo

In a remarkable display of bravery, a security guard in Ga-Hlahla, Seshego Policing area, Capricorn District, Limpopo confronted and apprehended four armed suspects who were allegedly robbing a spaza shop owner.

The incident took place on Saturday, 28 October 2023, at approximately 13:30. According to reports, a group of suspects arrived at the victim’s shop in a white Chevrolet Utility, posing as customers.

They requested mealie meal, and the unsuspecting shop owner opened the burglar door to assist them. However, their intentions quickly became apparent when one of the suspects fired shots into the air.

Fortunately, the victim’s neighbor, who happened to be a security guard based in Gauteng province, heard the gunshots and rushed to the scene to offer assistance. Displaying immense courage, the security guard allegedly fired a shot that struck one of the suspects, prompting the rest of the group to flee in their vehicle.

Authorities were immediately alerted, and the incident was reported as a case of business robbery. The swift response from the police led to the subsequent arrest of the four suspects, aged between 18 and 35, at Seshego Hospital. The suspects were attempting to seek medical treatment for their injured accomplice, who was shot during the foiled robbery.

During the arrest, the police confiscated a white Chevrolet Utility, along with a pistol that had a filled serial number, and seven live rounds of ammunition. The successful outcome of this operation can be attributed to the vigilance and bravery displayed by the security guard, who put his own life at risk to protect the community.

Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, commended the security guard for his heroic actions and expressed satisfaction with the arrest of the suspects. The arrested individuals will face charges and are expected to appear before the Seshego Magistrate’s Court in the near future.
