In a devastating event on Friday night, a 24-year-old man was arrested after allegedly crashing into a group of pedestrians, resulting in the death of all six individuals.
The incident occurred on the R61 road in Mbizana towards Port Edward. The driver, who was behind the wheel of a white BMW sedan, reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene immediately after the crash.
According to Unathi Binqose, the spokesperson for the Department of Transport, the cause of the accident has yet to be determined.

Binqose described the incident as possibly the worst crash involving pedestrians ever recorded in the province. The tragic loss of six lives from a single crash has left the community in shock and mourning.
