The shaking caused by an earthquake was experienced in the southern part of Johannesburg, including areas near Mondeor and Protea Glen.

According to the council, the earthquake was detected at 03:15 am.

Earlier this month, Johannesburg was struck by a strong earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale, with its center located around Boksburg.

Last week, a smaller earthquake with a magnitude of 2.8 was felt in the Roodepoort area.

In a statement, the council reported that the earthquake had a local magnitude of approximately 2.1, as measured by the South African Seismograph Network (SANSN).

The epicenter was situated south of Johannesburg in the Soweto area.

The council encourages the public to share their experiences by using the online questionnaire provided on the CGS website.

The CGS is responsible for managing the SANSN, which monitors seismic activity across the country.
