An American tourist is currently recovering in a hospital after a terrifying incident in Cape Town, South Africa. The 55-year-old man, who had arrived in the city just hours before, was robbed and shot in the face while withdrawing money from an ATM in Nyanga.
The victim, whose name has not been disclosed, hails from Connecticut in the United States. He had planned to spend two weeks in Cape Town visiting friends before returning home. However, the traumatic experience has forced him to reconsider his plans.

According to the victim, he was using a map application on his iPhone to navigate to his rental accommodation in Simons Town. Unfortunately, he was directed through a nearby township, where the incident took place.
Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed that the motive behind the attack was robbery.
The assailants stole the victim’s personal belongings, documents, and clothing. The incident has been registered as a case of attempted murder and robbery with a firearm at the Mowbray police station.
The victim expressed his gratitude for surviving the ordeal but stated that he would be leaving the country as soon as he is given the all-clear by the doctors. He emphasized the importance of personal safety and urged other tourists to be cautious when visiting unfamiliar areas.
