22 Limpopo Pupils Rushed To Hospital Due To Suspected Food Poisoning

On Wednesday, an alarming incident occurred at Makahlule Primary School in Ntlhaven Block H, Malamulele, Limpopo, where approximately 22 pupils were rushed to the hospital due to suspected food poisoning.

Department’s Response

MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya addressed the parents and the educational community, urging them to remain calm.

Lerule-Ramakhanya stated, “We call on the parents and education community not to panic as the situation is under control and will be investigated thoroughly to ensure that learners are safe at all times.”

Health Assessments and Investigations

Following the initial emergency response, the pupils who reported symptoms such as vomiting were treated at a nearby clinic and later transferred to Malamulele Hospital.

The department confirmed that most of the affected pupils were treated and discharged. That same afternoon, a second group of 13 learners sought medical attention complaining of headaches and stomach cramps, yet they were also released after thorough screening by healthcare professionals.

The department noted that samples of the food consumed by the pupils on that day will be submitted for testing, and an investigation into the snacks sold by external vendors around the school premises is being initiated, with the help of health inspectors.
