EFF Official's Murder Case Returns To Court
In a separate case involving an EFF official, 34-year-old Sipho Lucky Mahlangu has appeared in the Cullinan Magistrate's Court in connection with the murder of Monica Dube, the EFF's Election Coordinator and Secretary for Tshwane Region Two.
Mahlangu faces charges of murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances. He abandoned his bail application.
Police allege that during the early hours of 13 June, Mahlangu and an accomplice forced entry into Dube's Wallmansthal home through a window.
The pair allegedly entered her bedroom and fatally shot her in the head while her children were inside the house. They allegedly fled with her cellphone after the shooting.
According to police, Mahlangu was recognised by Dube's daughter at a taxi rank on 4 July. She alerted officers, leading to his arrest.
The matter has been postponed to 17 September to allow for further investigations.
