Man Arrested For Interfering With VIP Motorcade Convoy

A 57-year-old man has been arrested for reckless and negligent driving after allegedly interfering with a motorcade convoy escorting a foreign VIP dignitary to Lanseria Airport.

The incident occurred on Sunday morning and the man is expected to appear before the Krugersdorp Magistrate Court on Monday.

Despite warnings from traffic officials and SAPS members escorting the VIP, the man reportedly ignored the signs and attempted to enter the motorcade. On his third attempt, he was pulled over and subsequently arrested.

It is important to note that vehicles displaying a blue light have an absolute right of way, as stated in the National Road Traffic Act. However, this right only applies when it is safe to do so. Motorists are urged to give way to these vehicles to ensure public safety.

Blue lights may only be fitted on vehicles operated by authorised personnel, such as members of the South African Police Service (SAPS), Municipal Police Services, Traffic officers, and members of the SANDF Military Police. It is a criminal offence for civilians to use blue lights.
