Malema Vows To Fix Water Crisis As EFF Takes Campaign To Orlando Stadium
EFF leader Julius Malema has criticised the government over persistent water shortages, saying millions of South Africans still lack reliable access to safe drinking water more than three decades into democracy.

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has vowed that the party will prioritise South Africa’s water crisis if it secures control of municipalities in the upcoming local government elections.
The issue took centre stage during the EFF’s final election rally at Orlando Stadium in Soweto, where Malema criticised the government’s handling of persistent water supply challenges affecting communities across the country.

Malema said it was disappointing that millions of South Africans continued to struggle with unreliable water supply more than 30 years into democracy.
He accused the current government of failing to ensure that all South Africans had access to a consistent supply of safe drinking water.
Malema Highlights Hammanskraal Water Crisis
Referring to the cholera outbreak in Hammanskraal, Malema blamed the City of Tshwane’s failure to address problems at the Rooiwal Wastewater Treatment Works.
“In Hammanskraal, our people died of cholera because the City of Tshwane failed to fix the Rooiwal Wastewater Treatment works. Years later, residents still do not trust the water that comes out of their taps because the city continues to put their lives in danger with unsafe water,” he said.
The EFF leader argued that the water crisis was not limited to Gauteng, pointing to communities in the Eastern Cape as another example of the challenges facing residents.
EFF Promises Action From November 5
Malema said his visits to different parts of the country had exposed the extent of the water challenges, describing what he witnessed in the Eastern Cape as particularly distressing.
“I have been to all corners of this country but what I personally saw in the Cape is extremely heartbreaking. I’m sorry President Mandela that your children are going through the most but we will fix that from the 5th of November,” he said.

The remarks formed part of the party’s campaign message ahead of the local government elections, with the EFF promising to address water supply failures if elected into municipal governance.
The party has placed access to reliable water among the issues it says it intends to tackle, alongside concerns about municipal service delivery.
Malema’s pledge comes as water shortages and questions over municipal infrastructure remain major concerns for communities across South Africa.
