Major Traffic Disruption On N1 North In Midrand Due To Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash

The N1 North in Midrand has been partially closed off to traffic following a fatal multi-vehicle crash that occurred around midnight. According to Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Xolani Fihla, the accident involved a VW Polo and a Volvo truck.

Fihla reported that both vehicles were travelling north along the N1 when the truck collided with the rear of the Polo. This collision caused both vehicles to lose control.

The truck subsequently collided with a pole barricade, overturned, and lost its load. Tragically, the truck driver sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Polo suffered serious injuries and was transported to Tembisa Hospital for medical attention.

Currently, a recovery team is on the scene to salvage the lost load and clear the accident site. Fihla mentioned that it will take some time to clear all the lanes for traffic to flow smoothly again. Motorists are being urged to exercise patience while the scene is being processed and to consider using alternative routes to avoid congestion.

In light of the disruption, motorists are advised to stay updated on traffic reports and plan their routes accordingly. The JMPD is working diligently to clear the site as quickly as possible, but the cooperation of the public is essential during this time.
