Have you ever seen a beautiful dress on one person and it look good on her and you decided to buy it, after buying it didn’t fit as good as did on the other lady?

Well that is because women come in all shapes and sizes. So how do you find clothes that are flattering your specific body type? The key is to know your proportions, and use fashion to accentuate your best features–and hide everything else!

Before we go into details on getting the right clothes, you need to know your body type, pay attention to your curves. Look at how they connect your bust, waist, and hips.

The body types below describe women’s body, not a girl who has not gone through puberty.

Although, it is sometimes possible to determine body type prior to maturity; it is only after growing a bust, hips, and so on that it will become evident.

Measure the sizes of your bust, waist, and hip. Depending on the size of each part (in inches), you can determine which shape your body is to find clothes that properly fit There is no “best” or “worst” body type.

A certain type may be fashionable in your particular locale, at this period in time, but this does not mean your body type is “bad”.

All body types have pros and cons. Knowing your body type is about dressing to look your best. Even model’s bodies fall into one of these categories.

Pear Shaped Body Type aka Triangle Shape: A woman with this body shape has a smaller upper body compared to her lower body.

DO: Wear designs that emphasises a horizontal focus point above the waist e.g. off-the-shoulder tops and high-waisted skirts or trousers.

DON’T: Wear shapeless upper body garments that hide your smaller torso, but if you choose a looser top, tuck it in rather than having the top ending on your hip-line.

Hourglass Shaped Body Type aka Curvy Shape:

Your upper body is similar in size to your lower body (with a small waist)

DO: Wear tailored clothing that accentuates your waistline e.g. a tailored blazer or by clinching your waist with a belt.

DON’T: Wear untailored, bulky clothes that make you look as if you have no shape.

Apple Shaped Body Type aka Inverted Triangle: You have a bigger upper body than a lower body

DO: Place the focus below your waist-line e.g. printed trousers, a skirt with a lace or frill border and embellished jeans

DON’T: Wear tops with extra volume such as off-the-shoulder looks, puffed sleeves or a bulky scarf if you have a large chest.

Athletic  Shaped Body Type aka Rectangle/Straight shape:  You don’t have a defined waist.

DO: Wear garments that create an illusion of a waistline, such as an A-line skirt. Show off those legs, opt for shoes with details or choose shorter hemlines.

DON’T: Avoid big shapeless garments that hide your figure and instead of high necklines, rather choose a V-neck.

Ciara is a perfect example of an athletic body shape.
