KZN Man Dies After Allegedly Shooting Wife In Front Of 10-Year-Old Daughter

A tragic incident occurred in Tongaat, Kwazulu-Natal where a man allegedly shot his wife in the presence of their young daughter. The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, later succumbed to his injuries.
KwaZulu Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed that the police have opened cases of murder and inquest following the shooting incident at Saunders Circle, Belvedere on Wednesday evening.

When the police arrived at the scene, they discovered a woman lying in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds. Sadly, she was pronounced dead on the spot. The man was also found lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to the head. He was immediately rushed to the hospital but unfortunately did not survive.
At this stage, the motive behind the shooting remains unknown. However, the police have not ruled out the possibility of a domestic-related feud. The tragic incident took place while the man was attempting to fetch his daughter from the premises.
Prem Balram from Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) provided further details of the incident. According to Balram, their Tongaat operations centre received multiple calls from the public reporting the shooting. He stated that a 10-year-old child witnessed her mother being shot in the head and her father attempting suicide.
When the emergency services arrived at the scene, paramedics from a private ambulance service were already providing emergency medical care to the injured man. The lifeless body of the woman was discovered on the driveway with a gunshot wound to her head.

Investigations have revealed that the man and the woman were married but separated. The man was employed as an armed response officer (ARO) for a national company and arrived at the premises dressed in uniform, driving his branded company vehicle.
The incident left the young girl traumatized, having witnessed the violent act. However, she did not sustain any physical injuries. The child’s well-being and emotional recovery will be of utmost importance in the aftermath of this tragic event.

Four spent 9mm cartridges were recovered at the scene, indicating the use of a firearm. The critically injured man was stabilized by paramedics but unfortunately passed away upon arrival at the hospital.
The authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident to uncover the exact circumstances and any possible underlying reasons that led to this tragic event. The community of Tongaat and the family affected by this incident will undoubtedly require support and counselling during this difficult time.
