Joburg Crisis Alliance To March Against Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda

The Joburg Crisis Alliance is set to march tomorrow against Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda’s administration, voicing concerns over the city’s deteriorating state due to poor service delivery.

This march, supported by several civic organisations, aims to shed light on the pressing issues affecting Johannesburg.

The alliance’s cause has garnered support from various civic organisations, including the Democratic Alliance (DA) and Action SA, who have called for Gwamanda’s removal.

Executive Director at the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation, Neeshan Bolton, emphasized that the march transcends race or political affiliations, countering Gwamanda’s claims that it is politically motivated.

Bolton highlighted that the call for Gwamanda’s resignation spans different races and geographies within the city, indicating the widespread discontent with his administration.

A press conference will be held with key participants such as the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation, the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse, Action for Accountability, Defend Our Democracy, and the Johannesburg Inner-City Partnership.

These organisations have united in their demand for better governance and accountability from the current administration.

Kabelo Gwamanda, a member of the Al Jama-ah party, has been serving as the mayor for over a year.

He is the ninth mayor of Johannesburg since the 2016 local government elections, following predecessors such as Parks Tau, Herman Mashaba, Geoff Makhubo, Mpho Moerane, Jolidee Matongo, Mpho Phalatse, Dada Morero, and Thapelo Amad.

Despite his tenure, Gwamanda’s administration has faced increasing criticism over issues like service delivery and water surcharges, which have been described as incomprehensible and ridiculous by critics.
